My site is built and hosted on a Raspberry Pi. I researched the most economical solutions, taking into consideration both setup and maintenance.
It is a labor of love. I originally built the website on a WAMP stack, then migrated it over to the Raspberry Pi (LAMP stack) where I finished customizing it. Migration from two different stacks proved to be challenging. While some WordPress plugins worked better than others, in the end, I retained the basic, popular and more reliable plugin tools and did the customizing directly on the Raspberry Pi stack.
8-13-2023 Update: I switched from a MicroSD card to SSD and increased write speed from ~20MB/sec to ~246MB/sec.
Benefits:
- No monthly maintenance costs
- Low upfront equipment cost
- Opportunity to get a deeper dive with Linux
- Opportunity to learn about setting up web server security
- New learning experience with Raspberry Pi
- Figured out how to nest WordPress sites without using the multisite feature.
- New learning experience with testing migration processes between different stacks.
- Low cost scaling
